Masunaga Kenzo

Masunaga

Back in 1905, the founder of Masunaga invited skilled craftsmen from Osaka and Tokyo to relocate to Fukui, Japan, with the aim of establishing an optical frame industry in that region. Today 97% of Japanese frames are manufactured here and it is one of the three largest production regions in the world, alongside Italy and China.

Masunaga Optical is the only company in Japan that has a factory to control the entire manufacturing process from raw materials to the finished product which allows superior attention to detail and quality. When developing a new model, for example, the molds are always built in-house and, if there is a concern with the comfort factor after completing just one frame, the process will be corrected promptly before recommencing.  The company’s mission statement is “We manufacture excellent eyeglasses. We want to make a profit if we can, but we don’t hesitate to take a loss. It is always in our thoughts to manufacture excellent eyeglasses.”

Little wonder that Masunaga have earned multiple Design Awards across the globe since their inception and are the eyewear of choice for so many discerning customers. MASUNAGA designed by Kenzo Takada is a collaboration between MASUNAGA, a leading Japanese eyewear manufacture and Kenzo Takada, world renowned Japanese designer. This alliance has ‘created high-quality luxury eyewear through combining vintage inspired elements with fashion forward contemporary design.’
