What can I do if my myopia is progressing

There are many treatments now available for myopia management. We will discuss the more accepted techniques.

Orthokeratology lenses

This technique really took off in the 1990’s when Dr Boneham started fitting this novel, technique. With orthokeratology one sleeps in a specially designed, hard contact lens overnight. This gently reshapes the eye and corrects your myopia as well as slows the progression of your myopia. This technique has held up very well as a key method of managing myopia progression.  Dr Boneham has been fitting these lenses for more than 25 years and has been President of the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania for more than 20 years. He is also a fellow of the international academy and in 2023 passed the As such we have a lot of experience with this technique.  As an industry we are finding which factors need to be controlled to slow myopia progression.  These findings have been applied to Orthokeratology lenses and we are finding that it slows progression even more than early designs.  An ongoing study reported first year results recently and found that reducing the treatment area by 1mm greatly slowed down eye growth, by a further 76%, when compared to a standard treatment area orthokeratology lens.  We have been using this treatment zone in our lens designs and noticing a similar effect.
